Historically, the Yankees have been a buy-and-grown type of team. Dating back to the really early 1900s, (including the sale of Babe Ruth) they purchased some great players. Their fan base is huge, so they have TONS to spend on the team. Most of the time the payroll is $30-50 million more than the second highest team in baseball.
However, like many big market teams, a lot of their money is on locking up talent. For example, the Yankees have a lot of homegrown stars such as Derek Jeter, Mariano Rivera, Andy Pettitte, and Jorge Posada.
But yeah, Yankees can grow some talent, but if they're in desperate need to fill some sort of hole, they can buy a free agent no problem, they have loads of money.
That's a bit unfair if a team can purchase any player they want by offering more money than anyone else, I think the way the NFL does it with the draft is a better way as each team should if they have selected and spent wisely have a chance of reaching the Super Bowl every decade or so.
Yeah congrats Minn. However I feel the Tigers had way to many chances to win this game. I also feel the Tigers way out played Minn in that game. Oh well, good luck to Minn against the Yankees =o
I personally think Instant Replay should've been done on that Inge denied-HBP. It's a game changing play. Game changing plays SHOULD NOT be blown like that. The ball grazed his jersey, I think that's enough.
Umpires use instant replay ONLY on debatable home run calls. For example, if they think a fan interfered with a home run ball, three of the four umpires would go in the video room to review the play, and they'd come out with a judgment.
Personally, if the call is going to change the play, I think it should be subject to review.. but whatever fits MLB's needs.
Yankees tied the series 1-1 now. Heading to Philadelphia. Pettitte vs. Hamels
I think the Yankees will win 2/3 (losing Game 5 vs. Cliff Lee) in Philadelphia, and clinch in Game 6.
Tonight's prediction: 5-2 Yankees.
Also, has anyone been a little shocked with how great the pitching has been? Yankee starters have a combined 14 innings, and only THREE runs given up, two by solo home runs.
Phillies starters have a combined 15 innings, giving up 4 runs (3 earned), again, two on solo HR's.
You should root for the Yankees, or I'll rip your head off.
I hope the Yankees can clinch tonight. My only concern is if they don't win tonight, because either Gaudin in game 6, or Pettitte in game 6 on 3 days rest. :/
