i made a website over the last 2 days, you should check it out. its still a work in progress, and i have to add some things, like the bio, and the stuff for our new bassist
I'm currently looking for a band. None of my friends play an instrument(seriously WTF is up with that lol) so I'm venturing out to meet some other musicians.
I liked the song you guys had on the opening page of your site. I'd like to give my 2 cents.
The intro could definitely use a bit more light cymbal play. It doesn't have to be really audible but just lightly rolling on a splash or one your crashes would add a bit more to the intro that felt like it had to much blank space.
Vocals need to be stronger, I never felt any emotion from her. It all sounded kinda monotone.
Used to be in a band but all 4 of us broke the band up.It was called Theory Sessions. We were mostly a rock band and had a few metal songs. My part was main vocals and lead guitars.Signature song,Lies.Band only lasted about 9 months.
My Main Band, Metalexia, has been around for almost three years now. It's sad though, Our drummers keep quitting right after we book times at the studio. So we never get anything recorded and have no available music. I think that's about fixed though.
My other band, which formed... Three days ago, Is me and one other person.
Our name is:
The Hunt for the Anorexic Antichrist and The Masochistic Messiah.
Yeah.
I play guitar in both.
"i once killed an antelope, you should come over for dinner"
Alot of that song has changed. we had the drums do that because we wanted to get drums recorded before my other guitarist went back to arizona for college, so they were sloppy. and the vocals have already been resolved. those lyrics were our first written song, so they were rough

Unless you've actually recorded yourself singing, in decent quality, and played it back, you probably don't even have much of an idea what you sound like. When you speak or sing, you don't hear the same thing as other people as the sound is filtered through your skull to your ears. And that's why so many people THINK they can sing when in reality they're actually dreadful.
Singing is one of those things that people think should be easy. Unfortunately, without some way of them hearing themselves, they generally don't find out otherwise. Seeing as so many people nowadays are reluctant to say "Erm, no, actually you're a dreadful singer" and most people who sing without being in a band generally don't hear recordings of themselves.

Eh. On some levels "unclean" vocals are easier than clean vocals because to people that haven't heard them a lot, they all sound the same, or at least very similar. So provided you're making noise, you can get away with it (even though good "unclean" vocals should contain most if not all of the same things good clean vocals do). But when the listener is... "trained" (i.e. they've listened to lots of screaming vocals) they can tell what's good and what's bad. And of course, if you do screaming/growling vocals wrongly, it can actually ruin your voice if you do it way too often.
You're actually in a band, though, so I expect you've heard your own singing played back at you a few times. So I'm more inclined to believe you when you say you're good at growls than someone who isn't in a band saying they're good on vocals. And it's not unheard of for someone to be good at growling vocals but have clean vocals that sound dreadful. Can't think of any examples off the top of my head, but there are some.

I know what you mean. I've been told how to do it correctly and critiqued before, So I don't expect to hurt myself anytime soon. It all comes back to bite you sooner or later, whether you do it correctly or not, but you can prolong the time it takes before it starts to hurt you.
And because I've heard myself played back enough, i'm able to openly admit that i'm a pretty terrible singer.. So yeah.

I've heard that screaming will damage your voice no matter what, but... there are some musicians out there who have been doing screaming vocals for ten, twenty years, and still aren't showing any signs of damage to their voice. So I'm not sure, I'm pretty sure it's possible to at least minimise the damage to the point where it's not at all noticeable. I mean, if you can do it for nearly twenty years on and off and still do them now (Ihsahn is the example I'm thinking of here) then the damage can't really be huge, right? If it's present at all.
