Hey, what's up guys. This forum is like a "You are the Weakest Link" Game thread. But instead of being about money, it's basically afor fun. All of those who thinks they have great knowledge of games and want to test it. Come on down and "Take The King's Challenge".

what games will this contest focus on? like, if it's a m�lange of pok�mon and ssb:m, i'd do pretty well, and i'm fairly familiar with 2-d sidescrollers and smk/mk64, but beyond that i don't know too much :p

it would also be important to ask questions that couldn't be easily researched. for instance, i hardly know anything about the new fe game (the one on gba, not the upcoming gc one), but i know where to find lots of stuff about it. thus, it would be best if the quiz questions were analytical to an extent, requiring understanding (rather than trivial knowledge) of a game. for instance, i can ask you what were the 2nd fastest pokemon in rby (jolty, aero and m2), or who the sixth fastest falling character in ssb:m is (it's marth). i could ask you what the base stat total of arcanine and crobat are in gsc and the advanced generations (555 and 535 respectively), or what the fastest fire pokemon is (rapidash), or the 7 longest-ranged grabs in ssbm (sammy, link, ylink, marth, roy, yoshi and kirby, in that order). but this does not reflect mastery of either game - it just means that i've memorized the base stats of a number of pokemon and some of the character attributes in melee.

however, a quiz that demands, for instance, analysis of the competitive aspects of ssbm would be quite interesting for me.

But he could also give us questions that none of us are good at because if he doesn't ask questiond from pokemon and SSBM i'm hardly going to be able to awnser anything

well that's one of the problems. for instance, i wouldn't be equipped at all to answer anything about an fps, period. but that's the price to pay with a quiz that covers games in general - since most of us are specialists to one degree or another, it would be quite difficult to write a quiz that would cover all grounds. lots of us seem to specialize in pokemon and ssbm though, so a pokemon/ssbm-centered quiz could be a possibility.

it just takes exposure to the knowledgeable communities. i've been an on/off member at pokemasters since 2001 and at smashboards since 2002. these communities have shown me just how deep pokemon and ssbm are, and some high-level knowledge that most people don't know about. the trivia, like knowing lots of base stats off-hand, is just stuff i've researched because of my interest in these two games.

the most important thing i've learned though, from pokemon but especially ssbm, is that video games are always deeper than you thought they were. i've found games that i was reasonably familiar with (take mario kart 64 for instance) and found competitive communities that absolutely blow my expectations away. no-one can get really good at a game in isolation of these communities, because as a group, people can compile a ridiculous amount of practical game knowledge that isn't even imaginable (and, as i've found, is very difficult to teach) to your typical casual player.

Yo how about some Final Fantasy VII questions. I could answer the questions to that game befopre you finish off with the question.

I'm good with Zelda stuff. So I mean you guys got me for that if he asks a Zelda question.
