SHAKING
This can be done by duplicating a layer three times and moving each layer in different directions with 5 pixels (So it doesn't get too chaotic).
FADE
This can be done by filling a canvas with black and lower the opacity by the tenths (The link provided is by thirds, and as you can see, it's not as smooth).
FLASH
This can be done by filling a canvas with white and lower the opacity by the tenths (The link provided is by thirds, and as you can see, it's not as smooth).
FIRE DISINTEGRATION
This can be done by getting some fire sprites and pasting them over the main sprite you have set out. As you move it up on each new layer, delete excess below (I'm no longer in possession of the sprites, so you'll have t find your own).
PULSE
This can be done by pasting a shrunken version of the original sprite over the original and placing the opacity to 50 percent. The next frame is just the normal sprite. The frames after that have an enlarged version of the original sprite over the original, growing larger with each frame, and lowered opacities with each frame (Basically, make it bigger and Fade it out).
The other can be done by pasting the sprite four times in different places; on the left, right, top, and bottom. With each frame, spread them out in their own directions and lower the opacities as well (Basically, space them out and Fade it out).
INTENSE MOTION
This can be done by using the WIND filter on GIMP. Filters > Distorts > Wind. Once their, toy with the settings, but make sure it's set to blast. Then, once you click "OK", paste the original over it to make it clearly seen.
AFTER IMAGE
This can be done by pasting the sprite BEHIND the one before it beneath at a low opacity, such as 50 percent. To double the effect, (as shown), place another below at an even lower opacity, like 25 percent.

Question, is it easier to animate with GIMP or PS? I've heard GIMP. A friend got me interested in this, I think I will animate sometime soon, this helped a lot, thanks!

I'd say it's much easier animating in GIMP, since it's more direct. With Photoshop, you need to set up layers and create frames for them all. Then when saving, instead of saving normally, you need to go to Save for Web (last I checked). I had PS for a while, had to do a clean sweep of my laptop and lost it, never got it back.
However, with GIMP, you just save it as a .GIF animation and you should be fine.
