I think everyone should apply, well not everyone that includes Super Mods, Admins & current GC mods shouldn't. I think anyone that wishes the position should apply, if not hold your peace.

Ah, that's a great point, which brings up the main issue here.
Everyone who was once active has a chance for the spot. For example, RJdog got G&A: Requests with four posts in the previous three months; Wolf made it G&A Moderator after being back for a month.
Nothing at all against them, but the (only) reason they got the spots was their post-count, since they used to be daily active. If you have many posts, do it. Quite often here, quantity > quality.

The thing is, we don't have to hold our peace. Even just saying we don't want the position still follows the basic topic guidelines. If you don't like it, you hold your peace. 
I will not apply, because this place can never hold my interest for very long. I would mod for a month or two then leave again.
