The fastest way to beat the game... That would probably be to just train your starter only, and maybe another Pok�mon as well. Get them to a really high level so you can sweep through opposing trainers and stuff. But if you're trying to beat this game quickly so you can start HeartGold and SoulSilver as soon as they come out, you're gonna have to play for at least 15 hours, I'd say... Platinum's pretty long, and even after you beat the Champion you have a whole extra part of the region left unexplored. I say you just take your time and enjoy the game. But, do as you please.

I'd say use three pokemon. A Starter, Fighting, and a Ghost/Dark Type. Try to have a variety of moves while you're at it as well.
