Good bands like Dream Theater, Bullet For My Valentine, Here Comes The Kraken, Hollywood Undead, Blood On The Dance Floor...I'll go on if you like.

Post your favorite unmainstream (new word lol) bands.

The term you used is "unheard of". Dream Theater and Bullet For My Valentine are exactly the opposite of "unheard of".

When you get to stuff like Between The Buried And Me, Bang Camaro, Testament and Pitchshifter though, that makes more sense.

My meaning is 'if it aint mainstream, its unheard of.'
WHICH MEANS that if I have never heard it on my radio or seen it on my tv, its unheard of. Mainstream is the worst music ever, the best is whats talented, complex, but sadly, unrecognized (sp?). I'm NOT saying all good music is not heard on the radio or saying bands like Metallica and A7X are bad, either...

(typo lol)

Mainstream is such a broad statement though. Mainstream metal, Mainstream prog. Mainstream does not specifically mean top 40 crap like california gurls. By the way, Hollywood Undead is a household name here. But that could just be here.

Good 'Unheard of' bands that I can name off, Defeated Sanity, Thirteen Senses, Autolux, Cynic, Dark Angel, Flobots (not entirely unheard of, rising in fame), Kronos, Local Natives, Ludo, Righteous Vendetta, The Spill Canvas, Two Door Cinema Club, Ulcerate, Upon A Burning Body, Wrath and Rapture.

You mean like Bullet For My Valentine, Hollywood Undead, etc? Very mainstream bands there.

BFMV, is good IMO. But im more into rock, not metal like the rest of you metal heads. I've heard HU once.
Dream Theatre.. never heard of until i watched you guys post them.
would Paradise Lost be unheard of in your case?
Maybe Evans Blue.. <doubt that one though

Basically this. Anyway my last post didn't have much metal in it, so I'll add more suggestions here

Vanden Plas

Neurosis

Russian Circles

Moonspell

Lykathea Aflame

Agalloch

Alcest

Dornenreich

^saw these guys at metalcamp, with just one guitarist, a drummer, and a violin player. Who new that would make such a big sound? It was amazing

Eluveitie (again)

This is one of their songs in Gaulish, which is obviously a dead language

These bands are definitely unheard of because they are local, but rather awesome.

Lykathea and Agalloch have been two of my personal favorites. Elevenefris/Pale Folklore <3

I only found out about Moonspell when I saw them at Bloodstock last year. A friend I was with was really into them, so me and her got to the front. Brilliant set
