You're lucky Chris isn't around to threaten you with a ban. When I was a Member, and found both Mod and Smod topics through that way, he would bust a testicle in rage.
Something about it leaking staff info to a certain degree. I think he was just afraid I would find a way to view Smod/Mod topics through my glitchfindingways.
If I remember rightly it used to be an informal policy in the staff forums that topic titles couldn't be TOO informative for that very reason. So something like "Should we ban this guy?" would be considered preferable to, say, "Should we ban Dave?". Seeing as titles alone can't usually give that much away anyway though, everyone really forgot about it after a while, particularly as few members dedicate much time to manually inputting topic URLs in the hope of finding something interesting.
Pretty sure the actual topic viewing in restricted forums is fairly well done though. It was possible to actually /post/ there with a member account if you had an account with access at the same time but obviously there wasn't really any need for people to use that regularly. Think that loophole might have been fixed now though.
And Vasco's post a few pages back was right - I could see the staff forum link on the homepage when I first joined despite being a member.

Winner of Member Brawl '09. Finally cleared out enough sig space to include that.
^Though the super mod forum has been hidden since creation. As members we were never able to see that forum.
Personally I loved my glitch that would let me see the majority of posts within smod through a preview option in the search feature. People would always be surprised with what I knew. Though that was patched...when I got promoted. xD
