Main Site / Forums Merger

Richard asked me to come up with ideas that would make guests want to come back for the fun, so here's my first one;

Look to the left of that page, and you should see a few tabs that let you access different parts of our Soul Silver game section. I suggest adding an area named "Discussions" that will allow guests to comment on the game. It should look like a scaled down version of the forums.

Both Guests and Members can post, but Guests are warned upon posting that if they do not create an account, their post will be deleted in 1 hour. The reason for this is because all posts made there will filter into the forums without the Guest/Member really knowing it.

The Discussion area will have multiple threads to post in, but threads other than the "General Discussion" topic will be Member Only.

This means a topic will be automatically made in every forum, titled something like "Soul Silver - General Discussion". This will open the forums up to guests, but as I said - If they don't make an account within an hour, their posts are automatically deleted. If a guest causes trouble, their IP can be banned from the forum side by Forum Admins.

If there is a game on the main site that doesn't have a forum, a forum will be automatically made once the Discussion area reaches 100 posts - This means Rich will no longer have to make the forums himself.

People on the main site want to join discussions. They even make questions for discussions such as "Who's getting this?". This will give them all an area to discuss things in, and funnel more members into the forums rather than making people search for the forums.

Discussion needs to be prominent so that its almost prompting you to post a comment.

Maybe the rating on the right hand side should be a post your opinion. That might make people post.

Yeah, that is a decent idea. Or putting it into the center of the page, right under the Soul Silver Guide section.

Yeah, something like this is what we need. I particularly like the idea of auto-creating forums.

Certainly what we need to ship in activity.

I would love nothing more to be able to post comments here about games like Persona and Suikoden and maybe, just maybe have other fans want to share their thoughts. I dont like Pokemon and sometimes I feel all left out and lonely. XD

Yeah, I'm the same. Comments responding to Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn answers just turned into a massive debate involving me, a bunch of guests, and a couple of members who have never visited the Forums.

All of the guests that post will just be called 'Guest', right?

Until they either join or have their posts deleted within 1 hour. Although maybe it maybe better to extend this a little longer.

If you extend it any longer, you really open yourself up to trolls. If you ban a member, they can turn around and spam the forums all to hell through this system.

You could probably find a way to ban the IP address if they troll anything. Maybe for a certain amount of time though or even forever if necessary.

anyway.. Very good ideas and I agree with Nikki about it needing to be more prominent, not just put in with the rest of the stuff.

I'd say extend the time their post stays. Otherwise most people wouldn't get to see it and respond and if it's a nice constructive post, we'd want to see it.

Well maybe there are alternatives to deletion? Maybe just collapse the post so that you have to click a button to view it? Similar to our spoiler function.
