You're just bat crap crazy if you can't experience psychological pain.

I think fear of pain is something that pushes people away from doing a lot of things. And if that fear was gone, because of the lack of ability to feel pain, people would start doing a lot more things.

If I couldn't feel pain, I wouldn't go apeshit with what I do in life. I'd probably try a lot of new things - some things that I would be normally afraid of trying - but I wouldn't be completely idiotic about it.

But I'd also probably become overly paranoid, because I'd want to check myself every ten seconds to make sure I didn't step on a piece of glass and make sure I'm not bleeding to death.

I'm only considering physical pain in this, by the way.
I'd hate not being able to feel mental/psychological pain, believe it or not. xD

Although, if you couldn't feel pain, you would most likely still feel some sensation if you stepped on something, like the feeling you get when you step on anything, even the floor. You feel that there's something there. Likewise, you would be able to feel the trickle of blood coming from the wound. I am only assuming, however, and I don't know much about this disease that causes a lack of pain.
Thanks Craizen

That would make sense, though.
If only the pain receptors were 'broken' or not there, or whatever the case is, but all other touch receptors were still in tact, you'd still feel just, well... touch.
And in that case, I would be a lot less paranoid.

Well, I don't have much feeling in my forearms anymore. So I tend to smash into things on accident without really knowing how hard I've hit something :P

But you can still feel it, right? So if you were aware of this, and you felt yourself run into something, you could quickly check yourself to make sure you weren't bleeding or something.
Thanks Craizen

Wikipedia said:For patients with this disorder, cognition and sensation are otherwise normal; for instance patients can still feel discriminative touch (though not always temperature), and there are no detectable physical abnormalities.

Yeah, you would still be able to feel normal thigs then.

I'd just live my life without any notice. I am in the Marines, so maybe that would help.

Yeah that part was a bit silly. Happens more in the 4th book too, IIRC.

I wouldn't want to b e one of those soldiers.

Those soldiers were damn creepy. Bleh.
The first time they were introduced in the series, I was just... confused. I didn't know if I wanted to keep reading or not. So strange.

I would -not- like that. Haha.

Pain is our bodies way of telling us that there is something wrong. Without it, detecting stuff like appendicitis would be difficult and undetected can kill. So pain is good sometimes.

Too bad the body can't warn us that something's wrong in a less, well... painful way.
Couldn't we just have a weird twitching sensation, instead of some overly bothersome painfulness? :p

But think about it, if you just had a strange twitchy feeling when you had appendicitis or something, you wouldn't really be motivated to do anything about it, because you wouldn't think, "Oh hey, my stomach really hurts, I should go to the doctor," you would think, "That's weird, my stomach feels weird, maybe I'm just hungry." Although maybe if we were born with no pain, and this weird twitchy feeling was what we normally associated with something being wrong.
Thanks Craizen

Well yeah, that's exactly it.
If it was proven, and we were taught, that the weird twitchy feeling is a sign of something being wrong, we would still -know- something was wrong. And would probably do something.

It be nicer if your brain could send a message to your mouth to say "OY mate, I think you have a tumour starting to grow get to the docs!"

That'd be quite weird though, if you're in some public place.
Somebody stubs their toe, and they automatically say "OY mate, I think you need to watch your foot placement!" or some weird crap like that... xD

Although, I guess it would be a normal thing, for things to happen like that.
But imagine some of the crazy things that could be said.

Get kicked in the nuts. "Hey man, I -told- you to stay away from that b****!" Bahaha

I think she meant your brain sends a message like that to you so you would know.
