I'd like to hear people's views from SC on the theory and Ideology of Communism, as I am a member of the Communist Party of Great Britain (Marxist-Leninist).
I don't want hating or flaming, just people's opinions on Marx's theory, and obviously, keep this a philosophical Discussion, not a tense debate.
(This is the 10,000th post in the D&D forums by the way :P)
Honestly, there are upsides and downsides. Clearly it has failed in the past, but it could be argued that the main reason for its failure in the past was mostly due to the corrupt dictators of the time. Granted, governments now aren't exactly free of corruption, but if we could ever get decent people in leadership, then communism may not fail.
We might be better off returning to a bartering system than anything else.
There are many powerful people in this world. Few of them are responsible.
I'm not too detailed on the ins and outs of communism, but I know the general picture, and it seems like a fairly decent idea. Would I prefer it over capitalism? Probably not, but if a true, uncorrupted communist government were to take over and stick to the principals, I wouldn't be too unhappy.
And this, right here, is the problem I think most communist states have faced. Currently, are there any true Communist states? Or are they just socialist countries trying to be communist? Anyway, let's look at the states that we view as Communist: North Korea China Vietnam Cuba
Now, none of these countries seem to exactly be doing great in the social welfare area of government. Is that a fault of Communism itself, or the people that run the Communist government? If done correctly, with competent people in a government free of corruption, I believe Communism could work well. But we may also be past that point in history.
It's gotta be down to the people. I remember my mom telling me about a small village in england, where the people have dedicated a plot of land to growing vegetables. Everyone helps with it, and in return everyone takes what they need from it. It's a very small example of communism working, but an example nonetheless. Of course, theres a big difference between veggies and a country.
