Today's my first day working for Vons/Safeway. I hope it'll go well...

But for those who do have a job, what was your very first day on the job like?

It's really just trying to make a good impression and not mess up too much. Follow the person who's training you around, follow their instructions and ask any questions you got.

First day is always terrible.

McDonalds - First day was watching a video about how to do the job that didn't really tell you what you needed. I was then thrown on the grill and expected to know how to do it. That didn't work out too well, and we all fell behind.

Harbor Freight - That one wasn't so bad. I spent the day learning where things are and who everyone was.

McDonalds - Again, had to listen to the video, but after 8 months of doing it at the last place, I knew everything already. It was just like any other day at the old place.

IHOP - ...Bad. I got thrown into the Monday morning rush on the egg station as a cook. There were 8 people in that kitchen, and I couldn't hear any of them over all the noise and chatter. If I can't hear them, I don't know what type eggs to cook. At least the training was alright. They told me everything and made sure I knew it.

PrimeLeap - I never expected this one to turn into a business. I was just screwing around with some code late at night. The first day was just me getting fat, smacking on my keyboard, and talking dirty to Liz.

I thought Vons (Safeway) had an excellent Orientation and training videos, though they were as scripted as a soap opera.

Well my first day was quite awesome actually. Learned a whole ton about working with food and ringing up customer orders. Was so awesome I had the same energy at the end of my 8 hour shift as I did in the beginning.

First day was chill. Everyone was great, just shown how to use the tills and computer system, where everything was, and got stuck into it.

Actually I found a better explanation. This was my boss at IHOP. He did the same thing on my first day of work. He put a little teddy bear in his shirt pocket, and refused to talk to any of the employees that day. When he had to speak to someone, he just moved the bear's arms and talked in a real high pitched voice so it seemed like the bear was talking. I think he called it Mr.Teddy.

I miss Dave.

When I first started at the grocery store, it was a privately owned franchise, so they just threw me on the register with a more experienced person and had me ring up items. As I was a cashier, I wasn't expected to do much more than that. When the store was subsumed by a national chain, however, I ended up watching more videos that emphasised how important customer relations were. Those videos were in 2008, and I think I've been better predisposed toward people in general because of my experiences at a grocery store.

I'm currently going through the process of deciding what I want to do after I leave high school and I can honestly say I haven't got a bloody clue. Brick Wall

I'll probably just end up in some dead end job though.

I go to university, but sometimes I wouldn't mind just working at my current job in some 9-5 capacity. It wouldn't be a whole lot of money, but if I could earn enough to just enjoy a fairly normal life I think it'd be kind of relaxing.

Thanks to some stupid laws in the UK you now have to stay in education until you're atleast 17, next year 18.

Nothing really jumps out at me for what to do when I'm older, I.T seems the obvious choice but I can't imagine myself sat behind a computer screen for the rest of my life. :/

Guess I'll have to stick with my current choice of Cage fighter/Pornstar :P

I don't think he'd get far in the industry being quick.
