I like Animal Crossing, sadly I never got to play the Gamecube version but I put tons of time into the DS and Wii versions. Great time killers, so much to do. I don't have a 3DS and don't really plan on getting one so I'll be skipping on New Leaf as well.

If you did have a 3DS you definitely should've got ACNL. There's so much more features now including an island (has way more features than the gamecube one) which you can play minigames on, a shopping street where almost all the shops are, a suite where you can go to a random players town and new fruit such as mangoes, lychees, perfect fruit. All the things I"ve said is nothing compared to all the new things there are. And I'm not saying you have to buy it, I'm just saying maybe you should find out all the other features as well.
I think this topic has died :D

no, its the most useless piece of **** ever loaded in to school that teachers try to say "OH YOU'RE GOING TO USE ALGEBRA WHEN YOU GO OUT IN REAL LIFE" trust me you wont unless you set out to be a bank accountant or computer engineer, but even by those standards, you dont really count on general algebra, but you do use the theory of algebra to do something. algebra in general is just useless unless you decide to do something in life later on that actually has with math to do. hence why i think they should remove it from the school system unless those who really want it and want a challenge, pick it. ive been struggling with maths all my entire life due to being a dyscalcylic and its almost been embarrising to tell someone in public how bad i am at math and i can barely even read an analog clock, why the **** do they decide to put algebra in to someone who barely knows the analog clock, god knows why, algebra is useless and you will never ever get any use of it 99% of the time and if you do well just look it up on the internet if its a one or two time thing to solve.
just my two cents though, i hate homework but i do most things I have to do at home in school instead since i get time to do those assignments here because we never really get homework. i like this school system alot better than what i had when i went from year 7 to 8 in sweden(I never finished year 9 in sweden, i finished year 9 when i was in korea studying there instead).

I thought algebra wouldn't be that hard over there. They're getting rid of algebra completely in middle school where I live, mostly because there's no funds and the kids aren't used to it, though that's political and I won't get into it.
I'm also not good at math but algebra is easy for me now, back in 8th grade I struggled with it somewhat too. The basic algebra in college is a little harder with graphing parabolas, though I managed to push the grade to a B from a C by doing good on the final exam. The other ones like trig/calculus aren't hard either but I find it boring so I don't apply myself, which is why I'm postponing the math pre-major classes for later.
Animal crossing is fun on the GC, I never played it on the Wii or DS but I heard they were similar to the GC version with not many changes, after a while I ran out of things to do and then began using a cheat code device.
I suck at trig. I hope I don't fail this semester.. i'm going to be swamped this week with last minute homework.

Well, I mean the only time I think I've seen Algebra used is in Science.
I mean unless you are going into a profession involving Algebra or some other form of math that involves letters and numbers, you shouldn't have to learn it.

i only see you ever using the most basic of algebra. you'd probably use geometry if you were a contractor, engineer, architect

I don't see the point of algebra either. I know it could be useful for some jobs, but it's just a pain to do. They should focus more on things that are relevant rather than creating some weird equations and giving it as homework.
Another reason homework is bad is that if a student doesn't understand a question, they'll have to ask their parents or they'll just leave it. And some students parents work overnight leaving them no opportunity to ask for help. All work should be in class because it gives students a chance to ask questions if they're stuck. Teachers always say that you should ask questions in class so you don't get left behind. So why are they throwing away that opportunity for children to learn more.

I am going to write a lot now, I am also heavily biased, because I have loved maths since the day I was born, so don't read this if you don't want to have a civilized argument. Alright, here's what most people don't know about maths, maths is actually helpful, whether it be algebra or geometry, both of these will help you, no matter what you become. You might think that you need maths to be a engineer or accountant, but you know what, you need maths for a lot of things. Physics? try doing it without maths, just try. Chemistry? try doing that without maths too, see how far you'll get. You need maths to do a lot of things, not just the two or three professions that most people associate with maths. You need to be good at geometry if you want to be a good architect, you need to be good at physics if you're going to be a physicist (you know the jobs in the big bang theory? yeah, they actually exist) and as soon as you hear doctor you think Science! but that is an ignorant assumption, as a doctor who is not good at math, will be hopeless at chemistry, which is essential if you're going to be a doctor. But most of all, maths makes you think. It makes you think more than any other subject that you will ever learn in school, ever. Not just in terms of sums or numbers, overall, Maths is the best subject to do to build your thinking and/or brain power.
Look, I get it, most people don't like maths, it's hard to understand and even harder to like. But people over think everything, they think maths is the most difficult subject in the whole world...truth be told, it's not easy, in no way is it easy, but to me at least, it's not all that hard, you just need to think a lot. I hate people who say that maths isn't important, people who say that are usually the people working at McDonald's (and if you were offended by that, sorry, that's your problem). Contrary to what most people say, maths can actually be fun, it's just that the current, slightly less intelligent people have stereo typically made maths this god subject that only nerds do...it's fun, it really is, it's just that not many people try to make it fun. Just like the guy above me, this is my opinion and my opinion alone.
What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us.- Ralph Waldo Emerson
Math is fine - it's the advance, more specialised areas of it that are a pain in the ***. Seriously; Algebra is next to useless for my day to day life. I didn't need to learn that at school. At all.
I mean it's not like I'm going to be driving down the road, get a flat tire and need to figure out x = 2a(3b-2c) + 36DD or something moronic is it?
It's all fine and dandy that people enjoy it, and yes there are professions that do need the required abilities. However, the main point raised in this thread was; for day to day life this kind of math is not needed. It makes zero sense in all reality for this kind of subject to be taught in schools to the general populace. OBviously there should classes and programs available to those who wish to persue Chemistry, Biology, Physics, Architecture and all of those subjects which require a more advanced knowledge of mathematics. But to force students to take these particular kind of specialised subjects seems rather redundant.

Homework just ruined the weekend, AGAIN. Once Saturday's done, Sunday feels horrible cause you know you have to go back to school/work again. The weekends should totally be for 3 or 4 days, AT LEAST.

Nah they shouldn't Besides, not everyone has Sat/Sun off. Wait until your at college/uni or out in the real world flatting and working. You don't technically have a day off, ever :D So enjoy your one or two days of relative peace lol

"Forever in this heart of mine, an everlasting bond. From now until the end of time, are memories so fond."
I've never understood the reasoning behind the argument "I don't use X in real life, so why do I need to learn it?". Who cares if you don't use it in 'real life'? If you only learned the things you use in real life, your life would be boring as hell. Sometimes isn't it enough just to learn a new skill or solve a tough problem? Maybe it's just me, but I've always felt a certain thrill from learning anything new, regardless of it's real world practicality.
There's nothing wrong with learning something new. I'm much the same. All I'm saying is; and perhaps it is different for you guys over there. But at my school, there was a huge emphasis on alegbra and the like. Which hey; that's fine. Except for those people who a) Aren't all that great at Math b) have a clear indication of which career path they will follow and this subject has no relation too etc.
What I'm getting at is that these subjects are relatively specialised. At least; were when I was at school. It made 0 sense to learn this if you wanted to be a chef for example. Which is what I wanted to be.
Making a subject such as that mandatory when it's scope in "real life" is limited to a narrow (but broadening scope of careers I admit) seems rather redundant. I for one would have much preferred to have spent my time having that subject block at school used for something that would have helped me in my life, as opposed to something that has had 0 bearing at all.

That's true, and it's kind of like that over here. My school required you to take Algebra 1, which is understandable because it's simple math, and then at least 2 more math classes. Same with science - you had to take Biology and then 2 more. History was more structured, you had to take World and then US 1&2. At least 2 classes of a foreign language. And now they make everybody take a Financial Literacy class, which I think is smart.
So while there are some classes you have to take that don't have much application, the majority are left up to you to pick for yourself. So I got my requirements out of the way and just took technology related classes like Computer Science, web design, and digital photography since that's what I'm interested in.
I agree that we should be able to choose what type of Maths we do. You can choose what type of Science (Chemistry, Biology, Physics, Earth Science) and S&E (Geography, History) we do in upper school, why can't we choose what type for English and Maths.
There are always going to be people that are good at one thing in English, Maths, Science or S&E and bad in another thing. For example if someone wants to become a scientist when they're older and is good at Physics, but not good at something they have to do like Chemistry, they should be able to do Physics for a semester, if not a term. Why not let kids pick what they want to do in all years of High School.
