I say 'shocker' mainly because I've been doing the admin gig for eight years, and because it's coming on the heels of what just happened here on General Chat.
But yes, it's time for me to hang up the ban hammer. The fact of the matter is that with activity at the low it is, and other things that are going on in my life, I feel that I haven't been here enough or had enough interest to warrant the post of admin, so I'm not going to try to cling on to it.
I've been thinking of resigning for a while, and it should have been sooner to avoid the appearance of me being an absentee landlord. Although I don't feel that it tipped the balance all that much, the visit we had from Pixel Euphoria not too long ago shows that I've been late to the party whenever certain guests decide to come over and get drunk on some choice alcohol like the rules I wrote for SC long ago. In fact, it was only through Forgoten_Scars on Facebook that I found out what PXE's members had done. (It's a bit of a shock to me, too, that a former admin who was promoted along with me years ago would stoop to the level he has.) Like everyone else, I have plenty of ideas that I feel would make SuperCheats more competitive, but I'm not about to make some childish polemics or start trolling the board and its members for all hell. I'm better than that. I wouldn't have been an admin for eight years if I weren't.
At least, unlike certain people, I'm leaving the post with as much grace as I can. This has been the place that helped me build maturity and character over the past ten years, and it makes me proud to know that I have been part of one of the best known video game resource websites as both a submitter and an admin. I'm very grateful to some of the old guard who chewed the fat with me back in the day — actionshark, Zelda Fan, and shiny zapdos come to mind — and people like Forgoten_Scars, X__x, steelersrock01, and even (gasp) ozzo who made things a little interesting here in more recent times. I'm especially grateful to Rich and Dennis who have been extremely supportive of me over the years, and Mark for standing my howling at him over technical issues (although Forgoten_Scars probably has me beat out there). And if Blue Eyes Black Dragon, pokefan2, and PokemonQueen99 are still here, I'm happy I got to compete and argue with you too — I think only pokefan2 had any stint on the forums.
I'll continue to pop in from time to time here on the forums, and I might start submitting again when Pokémon OmegaRuby and AlphaSapphire come out. But I think jettisoning the pressures of being an admin will make it easier for me to actually enjoy the site. Who knows? It's certainly not good-bye yet.
