I don't know how many of you know about the Melbourne Cup (a horse-racing event in Melbourne, Australia), but today was the 2014 Melbourne Cup. Usually it is a fun, joyful event, which "stops a nation", but this year 2 tragic events happened, resulting in the deaths of 2 horses.
The first incident occurred during the main race. Nearing the 400m to go mark, one of the horses dropped from 2nd place, all the way to last place, & was instantly stopped my the jockey, who walked the horse to the finish line. When the horse made it back to its stable, it sadly passed away.
The second incident was also a tragic one. After the main race had finished, some of the horses were walking around with their jockey's along the fence separating the crowd & the track. A young child waved a flag near the horse's face, causing the horse to leap up in fear. It tried to jump the fence, but was unsuccessful; breaking one of it's front legs. It was later put down from the permanent & unfixable injury.
The Melbourne Cup is meant to be a fun, exciting day for punters, spectators, viewers (watching TV) & the horses & jockeys. This year's Melbourne Cup had 2 tragedies occur, both being fatal.
R.I.P. May you both find peace in the next life~
