Just seen the Will Smith movie 'Concussion', not the greatest movie in the world but it did make me think about the damage players take to the head during a game of football. Do you think the game will be eventually banned if lots more players die from the abuse their brains take during a game? Even now when I watch a game it's nothing like I remember it in the 70's and 80's in respect to hits dished out.
It's like the most successful sports industry in the world... It's not going anywhere anytime soon. And like you said, the game has been sensitized since back in the day. No players are taking the abuse from players back in the 60s, 70s, and 80s.
The 40's and 50's were the most brutal years, leg whips and clothes lines were still legal and the play wasn't called dead until forward progress had been stopped. The statistics of those players now suffering brain trauma must be frightening. All they had for protection were leather helmets and rolled up newspapers for padding.
You had me for a minute there. Trying to remember when any footballers have died from head injuries, those guys get a sponge down and hug if they stub a toe. Then I realised you meant 'that' football. Well can't be worse than the abuse taken in rugby without a helmet or newspapers.

The difference between with Rugby and 'American' football is that Rugby is a contact sport and 'American' football as it is popularly known in the UK is a collision sport. For example those guys that play on the line of scrimmage get hit from all directions in the head countless times during the game by opposition players that weigh in excess of 20 stone. When you consider pro players start playing when they are 9 and end their careers when they hit their 30's that's 20 years of abuse the brain has been taking.
Rugby is the kind of sport where if you play it you are never stressed in your personal or professional life. You just go out and beat a few girls up and go for a pint. Ahhh good times XD
The film? Not seen it.
Thanx to Craizen for the sig, love ya babe, Hubby for the avi.
