I love the look of the new commuter plane being developed called the SonicStar which is able to go from London to New York in under 2 hours and London to Sydney in 3.5 hours. It flies at 2,664mph ? twice as fast as Concorde and will fly at 62,000ft, allowing passengers to see the curvature of the earth. The plane will be in service 2021.
I'm not sure I'd feel safe in a plane going that fast when you think how congested the sky's are with planes these days, it doesn't give you much time to get out of the way.
Flown by computer or manually it is still scary thinking you are travelling that fast. The pilots don't get a lot of time to fix things if something goes wrong during the flight. I'll think twice before getting on that plane, a little bit of jet lag never hurt anyone.
It still has to take off and land. I wondered about the g forces as well, I wonder if there is any side effects to the human body if you travel that fast for a few hours? How would it effect athletes for example?
G force comes from acceleration / deceleration. Or change of direction. Not speed. Same as you feel in the car. Only matters when the plane is taking off. Passenger planes intentionally accelerate slowly for comfort.

Ha, dan-air was a few years ago now. Well it is relative. Taking off needs a fair amount of acceleration, but they will try not to make you look like you are training to be a GLG-20

Dan-Air, I can't recall seeing them at an airport for a while, I think they merged with British Airways or something like that. balthiersbit, a Dan-Air flight crashed in your back yard in 1980 (Tenerife).
