Super Mario Run

Hi all - Just wondering if anyone has played Super Mario Run and what they thought of it.

It's a free game - but essentially I think to play anything worthwhile you have to fork out some cash to play it - Not sure Nintendo are fully getting the free mobile games concept!

My kids love it - And we did fork out the 7.99 or whatever it was to unlock all the levels - They seemed to whizz through them pretty quickly, although will need to go back to complete them properly.

Judging from the poorish star rating I think people are generally a bit peeved about the large (for a mobile game) upfront cost of the game which purports to be free.

That's just classic Nintendo; doing plain dumb things for no apparent reason.

I haven't and can't get it yet. It's not released on Android I hear. I'll have to find out what it's like.

I played the free levels, the price tag just isn't worth it to me. Many more developers are offering similar products for way cheaper.

If your kid enjoyed it, I suggest looking at Raymond Jungle Run, and Raymond Fiesta Run. I remember playing Jungle Run a few years ago, and its practically the same thing... yet only $2-3 dollars.

Overall the product looks nice, but Nintendo got a bit greedy in my opinion. ($4.99 would be more ideal, or 9.99 if 40-50 levels were provided)

I was very keen to try this game.. although have to wait for the Android release. It does sound like it's not worth the cash though. Hopefully they will release more content for it over time though so it will get better.

Maybe they are trying to cash in a bit too quick. They would be better off treating it like pokemon GO where they basically had a free game that introduced a lot of new people to the pokemon world. Then made more money selling full pokemon games and 3DS's..

Yeah that is my feeling too - they should have learned from the models of people like SuperCell - Maybe at the moment there is not too much depth to the game so payments over time for crystals etc... may not have worked.

I also think the price point is too high and there should be more content.

The always-on internet connection is annoying and pointless too I think.

Can you not play it at all off line? If so thats bad. Especially as a kids game for mobiles. Don't want them playing for ages on a data connection when out or in the car etc.

Guys, this is no surprise. Nintendo have been doing stupid stuff for years now. The games aren't usually stupid, but there are stupid things incorporated in or out of them (like when a campaign was left out of the latest Super Smash Bros game because the creator didn't want cutscenes to be put on youtube).

Well it's hit the top of the itunes download charts by the looks of it but the ratings its getting are very average. No idea how many people have actually paid for the full version.

Wondering now if there will be a mario game out for the nintendo switch when it releases.

If there is it will have to be new and different. The latest in the series offers millions of levels and allows you to create your own levels. To downgrade to a standard Mario game would feel very boring.

Is that the Mario Maker on 3DS?

Wii U and 3DS. Was on Wii U 15 months before it was out for 3DS.

^ yea and somehow the online level creating sharing ability was left out. (Nintendo servers couldn't take it.) I believe you can still play levels created on the wii u though.

I wont bother getting it considering I already have it on Wii U. Is very fun at first but can get boring after a while. Creating an entire level and playing it yourself after it's been uploaded for anyone to play is so satisfying though. I've created and uploaded 28 unique levels.

I refuse to spend money on apps.


And I only played up to 1-2 because life.

This was just getting fun until I had to pay $10... too early in the game to spend that much, whereas other games boost you along and get you into them before you realize you should spend $$ to get better. See Clash and PvZ

I like apps that are free, but offer purchasable items/goods to boost your gameplay (extra coins, add-free, characters etc). That way people aren't forced to pay.

Exactly my thoughts Matt. That way you can try games, and if you like them you can invest more on it.

I have bought things on apps before.

I never buy anything on apps. It's very rare for me to pay for an app. I also usually don't buy DLCs for Steam games either.

I have spent money on PvZ games, as I am a huge fan of strategy games (hence my love and knowledge of Pokemon battling)

But I'm not paying more than $10 at once...
