2 days ago a soccer club in the UK was expelled from the competition, and will soon be liquidated. Bury FC were 134 years old, won 2 FA Cups, and are the only UK club to score 1000 goals in each of the top 4 divisions.
Another club Bolton Wanderers narrowly avoided the same fate. They were a Premier League team for a number of years this century, but now next season they are almost guaranteed to play in the 4th tier thanks to a 12-point deduction.
The crazy thing is, the EFL (governing body) allowed men with previous history of intentionally asset-stripping several companies, to gain ownership of Bury and Bolton respectively. The Bury owner wants their home ground demolished so he can build houses, and throughout the past few months has been lying through his teeth about his efforts to try sell the club and to "save the old girl".
It makes me thankful to follow other sports like AFL and NFL, where there are salary caps in place and no single figure can own a club like in the UK. I couldn't even imagine if Geelong (who I've supported for 13 years) were liquidated. Some Bury fans have supported their club for 70, and now it's gone.
~ Sometimes people change, but sometimes you just open your eyes & realise who they truly are ~
