sort of. the distortion in an amp is caused by boosting the signal until it distorts, and a distortion pedal boosts the signal going to your amp. but distortion pedals will have a different tone from the one on your amp. you shold try effects first before buying them

no problem. a good thing to buy would be a multi-effects pedal. that way you have a bunch of effects to choose from
