I'd always assumed the blue lightning was there because they had achieved the power of SSJ2+. He's a little snipet from Wikipedia that might ease the confusion 'There is some difficulty distinguishing between the first and second forms due to the their being similar in appearance, and that Toei placed lightning on random auras with no sense of consistency in the anime. In the manga, it is easy to differentiate between them due to the second form's electricity surrounding the aura'

Yeah, I've read the mangas and the anime, but I didn't get past the end of the Cell Saga in the mangas, so all I had seen was the electricity on Gohan.

I favor Vegeto.
The fusion was more permanant, letting him focus on his battle. He had a lot of uber moves, such as the Spirit Sword.

Well, you are right about that too. But with the Potara fusion, there is no chance of failing, and also, the two have a completely different personality based off of the other two personalities, not just a combination of the two.
