It was yesterday when I was going through random articles on http://en.wikipedia.org when I found out about a website called http://www.alexa.com

This website is run by http://www.amazon.com and monitors web traffic, you can do a search and the top 100,000 sites have graphs measuring how many people visit the site. I searched http://www.supercheats.com and to no surprise we were in the top 100,000 sites. In actual fact we're ranked just short of 12,000. Of course other gaming sites like gamefaqs and IGN were going to beat us, and it shows majorly in the graphs (You can compare sites; for the record gamefaqs is ranked 404 or something of the like.) What did surprise me though was when I used a feature to measure the sites lifespan and see exactly how many views we had been getting over the years. I can tell you right now, that this year has been horrible... use this link and see for yourself:

http://www.alexa.com/data/details/traffic_details?&range=max&size=medium&compare_sites=&y=r&url=www.supercheats.com#top

There was a major spike in 2002, and then it dropped down fairly low, but remained steady for two years. As the forums grew popular, we hit an almost all time high in 2005, and kept it, but as 2006 hit... well you've either waited to see the graph or you've seen it and you know...

So, our best year was early-02 and mid-05. This year is quite down on the chart, it seems.
1. Nice job searching that out.
2. What did we do this year different from the others, do you think?

In 2004, the forums started. In 2005, they became more popular, not exactly sure about 2006, but a lot of members have left; not that that's a reason to drop down 200 million views a day though. Oh here's something some of you guys should know:

Actually what I was implying was that forumsvibe (blue) is almost as active as SC and has been around for about six months.

IMO on how the site went down was when new dudes came and started spamming up the site.

Actually there are reasons for this, and this year has been ok... 2005 sucked though from mid-05 until about March-06 we lost a load of rankings in the search engines.

They are back now (since March06 and things are actually picking up. I would not take much notice of Alexa, the rankings really depend on who has downloaded the alexa toolbar. Which is why forumsvibe looks higher, probably more webmasters visit that site, and they are more likely to have the toolbar on their system.

But believe me, with 100,000 + visitors on every weekend day we are very busy. The stats really have nothing to do with the forums or individual people etc... just a problem we had with a particular search engine.

There is only really one search engine these days :: Google. They are responsible for the vast majority of web searches... You get a problem with them and the impact can be large.

anybody else ... not suprised? since i started in november '05, i noticed that activity plummeted... and plummeted... and never came up again. good site though... just... i dunno, we keep this up, and we're *cough* dead. lol, seriously, i wouldnt be suprised if in say a year or two the daily post average gets to like less than 100 a day.
i wanna live like james dean, i wanna die a superstar.

I personally enjoyed the forum's first six months the best. But i don't really see the problem with it today. The only thing I can think of is that there's too many staff member. Over half of the forum's active population are staff members. A lot of the others end up getting banned, like Devil King.

I'm finished here...

Special thanks to Yossy666 for the avatar and signature images.

Means only 1% of the supercheats visitors actually goes on the forums. Of course you know that, but if you ask what's this I'm annoying you with an answer :P

Well restricting teams and clans only to the teams and clans forum probably was probably the main reason activity fell so low, it was tons of fun back then.
I'm gone - bye

Actually Jirachi X you are quite wrong there. Restricting that was a impact yes, but 99 percent of all supercheaters go to the webpage, not the forums. So considering theres only 1% in the forums it made very little difference compared to this fall in activity. It seems the restrictions of teams to only T&C wasn't the reason that we lost so much activity.
