He basically takes the job of defeating Hollows until Rukia gets her powers back. He continuosly is getting stronger as he learns to control his spirit power and the sword. I can't say much more without ruining surprises in the story line. Have you ever had something that you thought you had figured out, but then realized you had no idea?
