Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings is a game in development for the Nintendo DS. It is an adventure based on Final Fantasy XII. It chronicles a period of time in which Vaan and Penelo, two of the main characters from Final Fantasy XII, are sky pirates.

Ivalice Alliance
Together with Final Fantasy Tactics: The Lion War and Final Fantasy Tactics A2: The Sealed Grimoire, it is part of a games compilation called Ivalice Alliance. It is the first game in the compilation series.

Story
So far, not much of the story has been revealed.
Set one year after the events of Final Fantasy XII, on the Sky Continent of Lemurs, Vaan and Penelo are treasure hunting in unknown ruins. Here, they meet the Aegyl, Llyud. Defying his race's traditions, he is looking for outside help. What the problem is exactly has not yet been stated.

Characters
Main article: List of Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings characters unlike Final Fantasy XII, Revenant Wings is going to have a larger cast, consisting of over 12 characters. Not only that, but the game introduces a new race, the Aegyl, a race of people with wings on their backs. So far, the known characters are:

Larsa: Child Emperor of Archadia. The Judge of Wings' control on portions of Archadia prompted his response. http://finalfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/Image:RW_Larsa.jpg

Rikken, Raz and Elza: The three pirates from Reddas' employ.

Characters
An illustration of Llyud. The character artwork is designed by Ryoma ItM, who was also the character designer for Final Fantasy Tactics Advance. ItM based some of his designs from Akihiko Yoshida, character designer for Final Fantasy XII, with whom he "traded secrets", with the confidence he gained from Final Fantasy XII creator Yasumi Matsuno's praise on his tampering with Final Fantasy Tactics Advance's Moogle designs. Both Basche and Penelo both have new clothes designs.

Locations
Set on the Sky Continent of Lemurs, Revenant Wings seems to be exploring the floating continent in more detail. Unlike Final Fantasy X-2, it seems the player will explore a whole host of new areas.

Setting
The Purvama LemursA few locations in the Ivalice of Final Fantasy XII return in Final Fantasy XII Revenant Wings, along with a new setting: Lemurs. Described in the official website as a legendary Purvama (Floating Continent) raised into the skies by the god Falsanos long ago, this land is ruled by a magical stone known as the ?Sacred Crystal? which erected a barrier to shield the Purvama from the rest of the world. In time, the ?Legend of the Floating Land? became an ambition for Sky Pirates who seek the island and what riches are on it. The ruins of Lemurs are where the Aegyl reside.

The Aegyl are a human-like race with wings sprouting from their backs and a life-span of 40 years. Due to being shielded within Lemurs, the Aegyl have no knowledge of the outside world.

The magicite in Lemurs are found as Auracite and Cloudstones. Auracites are used in the License Ring to summon beasts, while Cloudstones are known to raise the floating sky continents

Weapons
Anastasia is the sacred sword wielded by Vaan in Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings. A legendary blade, only those who are chosen may wield it. http://finalfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/Image:RW_Anastasia.jpg

Gameplay
Revenant Wings will feature gameplay similar to its predecessor. However, it has been stated that it will be simpler, obviously to accommodate the DS, but also to attract more people to Final Fantasy.

The Stylus
Similar to Final Fantasy III, Revenant Wings will be able to be played entirely by using the stylus. Area effect spells work by drawing an attack radius around your enemies. Nothing much else has been revealed about how it will be implemented.

The Japanese version of the game received praise from reviewers for the Japanese gaming magazines Dengeki DS and Wii Style. Praise was given to the mission-based storyline and battles for being "simple and more involved". The large number of characters that can enter the fray at one given time gives a sense of involvement to the player as if they are "close to the action", adding that the game's difficulty may appeal even to those who "do not normally play role-playing games". The only criticism found was with the usage of the stylus; as it is difficult to select areas in the battlefield using the stylus.

Gambits
Gambits make a return. Considering the battle system will be similar, it can be assumed that the gambit system won't be changed that much.

Summons
Summons are featured heavily in Revenant Wings. There are over 50 summons in Revenant Wings, from the Espers of Final Fantasy XII, to returning originals like Shiva and Ifrit. They will incorporate 5 elements; Fire, Water, Thunder, Earth, and None. Finally, each summon will come in 3 ranks, with higher ranks being more powerful, but being more expensive to summon.

Summoning
Espers will return in Revenant Wings and will have a larger role than in Final Fantasy XII; Director Motomu Toriyama has said Revenant Wings will have more summons than any previous Final Fantasy game.Summon abilities are learned via the new License Ring system. The number of summons are suggested by Weekly Jump to be around 50, classified in different categories, with each character able to summon a large number depending on their capacity.

Scattered across the playfield area is the "Summoning Gate", that could be used to summon Espers to aid in battle. The ability to summon the different entities depend on the "Gate Capacity" of the player character. Summons are ranked from I to III, with Rank I and II able to manifest in large numbers, as opposed to Rank III that summons only one entity. Summons are also differentiated by varying elements, such as fire, ice, zero, and recovery.

Summon designs have also differed, for example the lizard design of Salamander was changed to be boar-like to ensure that the designs would come out well in the game graphics. Each summon had three Ranks, and the designs of each Rank are so that there are relation between one Rank and another.

License Ring
The License Ring is revealed to be used to bind a Summon with the player. Each slot in the License Ring is placed with an Auracite to create a pact with the summon beast. Well i know theres a new type of magicite called Auracite. http://finalfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/Image:License-Ring.jpg

Types
Each character is distinguished according to three types; the unofficial name being Direct Type, Indirect Type and Flight Type. Direct Type characters attack at a close range, while Indirect Types attacks from afar, and Flight Types are able to fly, unbound to terrain. The types oppose each other in the manner where Direct wins over Indirect, Indirect wins over Flight and Flight wins over Direct.

Synthesizing
The element of alchemy and synthesizing is used in the game, where the player obtains recipes and materials necessary for the synthesis process. Only the player can obtain the materials, of which high grade material will enhance the equipment to which it is synthesized.

Quickenings
Quickenings also return. Original characters will be keeping their original Quickenings, whilst new characters will have all new animations. Unlike Final Fantasy XII, Quickenings are not obtained through conventional means, but through special conditions.

Development
The game will be directed and plotted by Motomu Toriyama, who also directed Final Fantasy X-2 and Final Fantasy XIII.[7] According to Toriyama, the game is aimed at Nintendo DS owners who are not experienced with Final Fantasy games, and will remove "overly complicated elements from the battle system...that will allow (the player) to defeat the enemies with minimal controls."

Like with Final Fantasy X-2, the airship, named as Beiluge (Beirkju?) will be available to the player as soon as the game starts. The airship is used as a base where player's can check on their current mission and view other tasks, customizing equipment in the synthesis shop, and travel to the four islands of Lemurs. The airship's interior can also be customized by the player.

The game will feature a sprite-based graphics engine with prerendered backgrounds and character designs by Ryoma ItM (Final Fantasy Tactics Advance).

What are you talking about? People should be allowed to discuss the topic, whether they have new info or not. You being too strict as a mod

It should have Alexander, Leviathan, and Odin back. The fact that they werent in FF X is a mistake, since they're recurring summons (not including XII, which had all new summons, which is unique to the series)

Ok, its just that we need more freedom when it comes to discussion. Rich doesnt want this to be a strict and generally restricting site when it comes to discussing

Anyway, that being said, ill get back on topic

If there going to bring back the traditional summons, Bahamt better be one of them, since hes appeared in practically every FF game (except 2)

The first 2 FF games didn't have summons yet, as they were first introduced in III, but Bahamut still appeared in FF I. So Bahamut is the number one most recurring summon in the series
