trust me, girls alwayz hug other girlz, its not because she a... that... but just because there probuly just really good friends. but a solution to your problem, ask her to sit by you at lunch, or talk to her in the hall when you have time, and maby make some small conversation, then when she starts feeling more comfortable with you and starts talking to you maby ask so "wats up?" or "is there anything wrong? I mean, I dont want to get involved to much but is ther something wrong around at home" if you think shes really happy when shes talking to you, dont say anything about the family thing, just leave it at the small talk. well hope i helped.

Thats actually quite common. You just talk to her about things. Thats what worked for me and my crush. Although about a month later, I found out she had a boyfriend. Darn. But I think its too late for my help. Anyways, just be comforting around her if she's really depressed about it.
