I gotta say it was NekoMajin, A story of a cat that was magical...it was odd, the cat was blue, and it had the same clothes as Goku from DBZ, and Noyibo (the red stick thing) from Goku in Dragon Ball.

I read the first volume of the ani-manga and it was interesting. I'm not sure if it was the same as the manga though.

Hm... I'd have to either say Dragon Drive or Legendz, they're definatly off the beaten path, but still fairly good, my only problem with Legendz was that it was only 4 volumes long...
