Dualing With Goro in Mataki Viliage

I am new at playing video games in genral, and i have the basic control buttons understanding, but in the ribbon dualing with Goro, there is an arrow that i can't figure out, i have tried several combinations. it is the 4th pattern in the ribbon, it is a left arrow pointing up but not straight up, it is like at a 45 degree angle it is neither left or straight up, does anyone know the comination to make that arrow work. the ribbons are easy in the duals, there are other games that i play with my grandchildren that use the same type of ribbon and patterns to get through different levels of of other games, i just never seen that particular angle of an arrow.

It's very simple, you just press Up/Left diagonally.
