I played two more games with this formation, and it wasn't so successful. Losing 1-0, and just edging the other on penaltys.

I think I'm going to try and pack the midfield, and play the passing game...

On 24-Apr-2008 superblobby said:I tried a new formation, yesterday, for 3 matches online. I'm the team on the left.

Brighton 2 Nottingham Forest 0
Everton 3 Liverpool 0
Newcastle 2 Arsenal 1

As you see, I only conceding 1 goal, in all 3 games, with an inferior team.

I played 5-3-2, and I basically just hit the opponents on the counter. The only different story, was the Everton match, where I completely dominated possession, scoring an Andy Johnson hat trick. This formation really does limit the chances on offer to the opposition.

I'd reccomend this, for away games against superior opposition.
To be fair, in the game no team is truly inferior if the gap in total skill level is 5-10 points. Unless you choose a really rubbish team with pathetic (stat-wise) players and go up against a really good team, you won't see much difference.

To get accurate results you'd need to play several rounds against players who normally beat you, and if you start beating them more frequently, this can be considered a positive sign.

Second point, is very, very true, I'd need to play against the same players, and such, to compare results, I guess.

First though, the better teams have great players, on the game with better stats, who can do something on their own to change the game. Liverpool have Torres, and Gerrard, whilst Everton don't really have any World Class material to speak of.

It was tactically sound.

That's true. But it might just be because I'm Australian, but Cahill I find to be a good player. Maybe not a Torres or a Gerrard, but in a game of statistics and not dynamic football player skill, there isn't much difference.

That's what this is, a game of statistics.

You are both right but don't forget about the "luck factor". Even if you play the same game, with the same teams, and even with the same strategy you can end up by getting always different results.

Its a game of statistics but also luck, like all the games.

You can get lucky, sure. Some parts of the game also involve a lot of guessing and guessing correctly often is a matter of luck (ie. Penalty Shootouts). Occasionally a really simple strike that the Keeper always blocks and laughs goes through him and you score, that's more based on numbers being crunched, but to get that to happen you'd need to be lucky.

In order to be the best player you can be:

-You need to be skilled at the game, good at passing, crossing, striking, tackling, etc. This is the most important thing.
-Pick the team with the most technically sound statistics. If for example, in Manager mode, don't trade players just so you can get your favourite stars, pick the people with the better statistics for the job (game-wise, not current performance League-wise).
-Formation. Now this is tough one. You've got to be careful, pick the formation that you think best counters whatever formation your opponent is running. It's about counter-formations. If they lock you down with equal formations, THEN go ahead and choose the formation you feel most comfortable with.
-Luck. As mentioned before, there are a few things you can only leave to luck. Don't let this bother you though. An "extremely lucky" player will not beat a technically sound player with a good formation and good players.

Also being tactically sound during a game. Knowing when to use the dual pad, for counter attacks, when to press your defense up, for the offside trap, and all.

Substitutions can change the games, and play a key factor.

Cahill is a great player, they also have Yakubu, Johnson, Fernandes, and Gravesen, and what not, but the 'average' Liverpool players still outclassed them. (Bar Arteta and Cahill.)

Eh are we getting a little off topic? Fromation isn't a ig role in the game in my opinoion. so i just choose one that maximizes my defense.

Well its better not ot argue with TWO SMods. Well carry on but may ask what is he best way to organize a team. Go with the existing strategy or go with what works for you?

I advice you to try one that works for you if you wanna play alot and be a real expert, if not, just choose a basic one, like 4-3-3.

I often use a 3-1-2-1-3 formation
3 defenders 1 defendensive midfielder 2 wings 1 offensive midfielder
and 3 strikers. I just love attacking!
