Basically, I'll add updates and links about Guitar Hero 4, like release date (not any time soon)
And Guitar, Drums and such like that.
But for now we have:
The Release date is believed to be sometime late 2008/early 2009

So far we know, the drums for GH4 are different to the ones from Rock Band, (3 drum pads, 2 symbols and a bass pedal, where as the Rock Band drum set consists of a bass pedal and 4 drum pads.)
Now the guitar, I haven't been able to obtain any official pictures of it, but I think it may be like the Strat from Rock Band with a special strip or buttons for tapping (2 hands on the frets)
except a different model guitar like a Gibson FireBird or a Gibson Flying-V, the next 2 most popular Gibson guitars as they've used:

A live version of Purple Haze and a master recording The Wind Cries Mary by Hendrix have been confirmed. Perhaps a Boss Battle with Hendrix will be there too.

They have Michael Jackson (WTF?) in the game and a pretty bad choice for a Metallica song in Trapped Under Ice. I guess that should have been expected, with GH: Metallica around the corner.
