halos purpose was to house and contain the flood so that they cant get to sentient life... but once actavated(spelling) it will kill the food of the flood including the humans and the covenant

the 7 rings were built to destroy the flood as you said but the flood cannot die off i dont think
the only way to compleatly kill of the flood was to kill there foof suplie like humans and covanant.
the covenant think thay will be like gods if they actavated the rings and do not fully know halos purpose apart from killing the flood
