I bought some mushrooms and planted in mushroom barn but nothing happened and the mayor keeps asking to visit another town how is this done

visit another town as in ? and the mushrooms take a VERY long time for them to sprout and grow .. so have patience ..
Btw , a lumber is needed for you to just sow the seeds .. sigh ..

Mr. Knowall is correct. You need to wait a while for them to grow. Also, are you putting a piece of lumber on the stool-like things, and putting the seeds on the lumber? Thats how it's done.
