With a game cube do you also need the memory card? or is that somin else?

Ok I got an awesome deal on my game cube $70 at game stop (used) i personally think if u save money on a used one that is i excilent condition buy it. memory cards vary from $5 - $20 or so depending on how much memory they hold.
