I have Katie at 10 hearts, and the 3rd upgrade house, and still I can't get the double (large) bed to show up. Not to mention I have 50 notes. It is only showing the small polka dot bed. Do I have to have the 2nd upgrade house as well? I'm frustrated. Please help.

You have to be friends with, joe, woody or kurt to be able to get a level 3 house.
