I think Mario Kart Wii is a great game multiplayer but I don't think it is a good game single player because it got really boring once I completed 100cc. Mario Kart DS was great single player so I think the games got worse recently.

Rubber band AI in the high difficulties screwed it up, but it was pretty good until then.

I thought I enjoyed it single player but now I think about it I hardly ever play single player...haven't even unlocked all the characters yet.

I'm with Volke, great game except for the rubber band AI. It made it a pain in the *** to unlock Dry Bowser, who i never even use >_>
I find the real fun in time trials though, theres nothing like thumping an expert staff ghost.

Well, I personally think single player is good in my opinion, but it's even better when you have friends playing with you. Even the AI's are a pain to beat if somebody goes for a Three Star rating for mostly the 150cc, and Mirrored 150cc.

Time Trials are fun, yes.
At least Funky Kong, the fastest character in the game, is easily unlocked.
