..........I heard that if you plsy dvds on it you will damage the soft/hardware in the machine and you won't be able to play games on it, am i correct?

Well, as far as I'm aware, playing DVDs does no damage to any of the software of the PS2. I've played a few on mine and nothing goes wrong with the games!

Of course it won't do any damage.
If playing DVDs would damage the PS2's inner-workings then we all ought to stop playing 99% of PS2 games, coz all but a handful of PS2 games are written onto DVDs anyway. About 99% of the PS2 games are "DVD-Rom" disks but if DVDs can damage the software of a PS2, my PS2 would no longer work and it's still going strong!

what are you talking about do you think they would sell dvd remotes for the ps2 if it hurt your ps2? its designed to play dvds all of sonys games are dvds and so are most other brands and it plays cds to not pc games no but music cds (i wish it could play pc game :])

it wont damage your console but prolonged use of playing dvds can wear your laser out sooner than it would just playing games simply because when watching a dvd your laser is constantly scanning.
