The Time Period

So, now that Gen V is well on its way, I wonder what time period these games will take place in? Here are the options basically:

Sometime before Gens I & III (the past)
At the same time as Gens I & III
Sometime between Gens III & IV
At the same time as Gens II & IV
Sometime after Gens II & IV (the future)

Imo these games will probably take place either in the future or at the same time as Gens II & IV. There's no reason to go to the past unless this region won't be affiliated with any other region. If they didn't there'd be a plot hole as to why the new Pokemon hadn't been discovered yet. If they go to the past I'd want it to be far away from the original four. My preferred time period would be at least 4 years after the events of Hoenn because that would put it in the future so there would be no new Pokemon plot hole. And the city shown in CoroCoro does seem pretty advanced to be in the past, they even have vehicles now.

So, when do you think these games will take place?

Hopefully the future. If not, then wtf.

Depends if they involve Gen III then it will probably be somewhere inbetween III and VI.

I'm hoping for the future.
If not,then somewhere in between the Hoenn and Sinnoh time periods.

If they make it of the future, Maybe the tech should be as advanced as Pokemon XD Gale of Darkness. That game was definately set in the future. I'm sure Gen V will be either the same time or significantly after HG/SS.

Well, since it's a new generation and not a remake, I think (and hope) that it will be in the future.

I think it will. Trying not to be as advanced as Gale of Darkness. Close? Maybe so. I think 2-5 years after HG/SS.

Yeah I think it only makes sense to put it in the future, although I'm really not a huge fan of the show, I just like the game's.

Gale of Darkness is a game. The show itself isn't too far ahead.

By the looks of the pictures, it looks like B/W is set in the future.

I mean, the main character eventually crosses a bridge that vehicles are also driving across. I don't think I've seen a car in Pokemon before, whether or not cars exist in Gen I-IV.

There whole Pokemon series has a timeline? It's obvious that Gen II is set after Gen I, but there's nothing in the games to suggest when the others are set.

Probably a couple of years after Gen IV then, I guess.

Well we do know Gen IV is set 3 years after R/B/Y/LG/FR.

I still don't understand the significance of a timeline.

Gens I & III take place around the same time & Gens II & IV take place around the same time. The timeline to me is very important because I'm interested in the story. That's why I hope this generation takes place in the future so it'll advance the story.

That's true, but there's no linear story throught all the games. The story is set in each game, thus unless the game's stories are connected somehow, the timeline is insignificant.

Also the truck in Snowpoint City in D/P/Pt. But I don't think they were really used for transportation very often. Seems like they only use vehicles for work to me.
