i heard there wasn't going to be a third version that combines both, and it got me thinking that its been going on for years and years and the amount of pokemon has grown by 500 since the original. i almost hope that this is the end because if goes on much longer GameFreak will start to get lazier and lazier with the pokemon designs, and i can already tell that its starting to slip with some of the bad designs in black and white. but there is still time to cut it off on its prime and give it a respectful burial. any thoughts or comments on this matter?

As long as kids are being born & given Nintendo hand-helds & consoles, there will be a pokemon game of some sort being produced. It's too great of a profit earner for Nintendo.

and i went on wikipedia and i searched "Top videogame franchises" and i found in first mario with 260 something million units sold (of all games in the series ) and pokemon was in 2nd with 206 million games sold

i have been playing pokemon since i was 4 and 1/2... first one i played was blue version... all i can say is that i am VERY disappointed with the most recent game. the story was fine but it lacked that great feel of adventure that we have always loved. but easily the worst part was pokemon design. awful. detestable. frightful. there is at least 90 pokemon out of the new ones that i hated. i loved every one of the original 151. yeah, you heard me, even magikarp! all in all, i think i'm gonna stop playing pokemon sometime soon.

Honestly, there are bad designs in every Pokemon generation. In my humble onion, I think the latest generation is a step up from the 4th. But it doesn't matter how it compares to the first generation anymore, as they've gone through so many different handhelds, none of the new buyers will know much at all about the first generation, much less its feel of adventure. Like Sphynxx said, as long as people buy it, it will never die.

yeah good point iv'e seen people say about pokemon: buy till i die. that's a little extreme, but i do hope that the next one will be better. don't wanna be grim, but probably not.

A lot of people complain about the design of the new Pokemon, and state the bad design as a reason why they won't be buying the games anymore.
If you look at the early generations, many of the Pokemon were based off of real animals and plants, and we could sort of relate to them. Then when we got to the 4th and 5th generations, Game Freak (I'm guessing here) ran out of feasible animals to base Pokemon on, and had to start making up new things.
We as consumers can't relate to these new designs, they seem ridiculous to us. But they only seem ridiculous because we can't really compare them to a real life animal. I feel that if Game Freak can make more realistic (to an extent) designs more people will like them, and buy more games.

i despise the pixelized pokemon/people
i recently have started thinking that game freak might make a pokemon game for 3ds but with like NOT pixelized people and pokemon.... if they did it in colosseum ,xd and pokemon stadium 1 &2 and
if they had the time for pokedex 3d they could create a new ,unpixelized version

I think I remember reading something a while ago about Game Freak saying that they're going to make a new generation/game of Pokemon for each region of Japan. I don't know if that's true or not but if it is then that means that there are 3 more guaranteed generations seeing as how they have made 5 different games already and there are 8 major regions to Japan.

I think the question is not if, but when, new Pokemon games will be released. As long as people are buying the games they will continue to make them...
