Haha, best autocorrect ever.
Not being a Mono-type fan, my favorites are:
1) Torchic (Blaze Kick of Blaziken is awesome.)
2) Chimchar (Earthquake of Infernape just destroys Empoleon)
3) Tepig (Heat Crash + Emboar's Weight = Fiery Doom)

i'd say definitely the fire starters...theyre pretty good, especially Charizard and Blaziken. Mudkip will always hold a special spot in my heart though, my first pokemon starter

Chimchar has a place in my heart as my first starter but my friend for some reason traded a lvl 28 staravia for his lvl 15 prinplup in pokemon platinum .
Gen 1 : bulbasaur

Fire types beat the game for me in pokemon ruby
Blaziken , magmortar ( trade ) , ninetails ( trade ) , torkoal , charizard ( trade ) and groudon ( not fire type but all fire moves )

If you start with water type usually they are worth it later in the game. Depending on other games, fire type is also good.
