Pokemon G/S Secrets

Post anything that might be useful in Gold/Silver/Crystal here!
Please do not post any Gameshark codes!

For the beginners or people who started their game over, this will help quite a lot, I hope.

When you first get to Cherrygrove City, go and finish your delivery. However, don't return to New Bark Town yet. Instead, use the PokeCenter in Cherrygrove City to heal your Pokemon, and train on Route 30 (North of Cherrygove City). It may take a while, but you can get to L: 15 without battling your rival the first time. Once you have a L: 15 Cydaquil/Chikorita/Totodile, you can beat ??? with one attack and return to New Bark Town. After you complete the errand battle all of the Trainers and wild Pokemon you can until you only have Falkner in Violet City left to battle. Continue this throughout the game and you can beat the game with your starting Pokemon, but I don't recommend this appraoch to everyone.

Ten Time Tips!

Most people with Gold/Silver know about changing the games day/time. This is useful for many reasons.

First, you can set the time to Monday Morning to buy items from the man in the underground path in Goldenrod. It's not worth much but you can collect some rare items there at a cheap price.

Second, Kurt, the Pokeball maker, makes a Pokeball for you once a day. Change the day and visit him to find your ball ready without waiting.

Third, you can change the day to change the Lucky Number Show's contest number. Although you chances of winning are slim, it's better than waiting for each friday!

Fourth, set the time to Friday to catch Lapras in Union Cave.

Fifth, each time you change the day, you can go to the Trainer House to battle again.

Sixth, change the day to a day that the S.S. Aqua sails.

Seventh, Change the day to a day that the Bug Catching contest is held.

Eighth, for Moon Stones! Clefairy come to Mt. Moon on Monday nights. Bring a Pokemon with Rock Smash to get the Moon Stone under the rock.

Ninth, to battle your rival at the Indigo Plateau on Wednesday.

Tenth, to catch certain Pokemon that only appear during the day, morning, or night!

if you change the day can you do mystery gift again, thatd be useful...

I forgot all about Mystery Gift... since I don't have a regular GameBoy Color.

and this makes the 12th reason to change time
there are those 7 people that come out on specific days in specific places with items, you could change the day to go meet them all...

For Gold, Silver, And Crystal:

If you have more than one GameBoy, Pokemon game, and a Link Cable, you can trade Pokemon and collect ID Numbers for the Lucky Number Show. Use one game (I use Blue Version) to restart. Get the beginning Pokemon from Prof. Oak and trade it to Gold/Silver/Crystal, and you can increase your chances of winning a prize. If repeated enough times you can win a prize daily, if used with time change. (It is easier and takes less time to be able to trade in R/B/Y than G/S/C. This is why using R/B/Y is better for collecting ID Numbers)

^it would take ages to get enough id numbers, but getting free master balls, hey do you know what you get for second place in the id game thing, because 3rd is pp.up and first is master ball but i dont know what 2nd is...

I think it's a Pokemon. I think I remember reading somewhere that somebody got a Magby from it. I might be wrong though.

In Red, Blue, and Yellow version(s) you can access the Cable Club by delivering Oak's Parcel (Which is a modified Pokeball, but no one knows what kind). This can be done in 5 minutes or less; I have about 15 ID Numbers from other trainers/versions in my Silver version.

Edit: All you need to trade is a Pokedex in R/B/Y.
