...these games being tie-ups for the series.
As in, tying up all loose ends, making all, or nearly all, Pokemon available on DS games.
I'm starting to think that this may be the end for the Pokemon games franchise.
Either that, or Gen V will start completely afresh, a blank slate after all loose ends have been tied up concerning Gens I - IV.

Yeah, I made this theory a while back, almost exactly like this. But oh well, I think that thread died.
I don't think this is the end at all, they're makin' too much money & have to large of a fanbase to quit now. Gen V will be a reboot, HG/SS is just to give the hardcore players the nostalgia trip they need, let newb players experience Johto, & to tie up all the loose ends so they can have a clean slate with future generations.
Besides, the anime director said there will be a Gen V.

It definitely isn't the end, for reasons coach already said. Unfortunately, I think they're not going to let us transfer our 3rd and 4th gen Pokemon onto 5th gen. 2nd gen let you transfer your Pokemon from 1st gen; 4th gen let you transfer from 3rd gen. You couldn't transfer 2nd to 3rd gen. So you're probably not going to be able to have your 4th gen Pokemon go to 5th gen.
tl;dr-4th gen is gonna be trash come 5th gen.

Then they'll start with a new fresh pair of games thrown out from the Gen V series and hopefully they leave this on the DS for a while or they are going to have the same problems that Gen I-IV had....

I think they will let you trade as long as they do not change the coding of the pokemon. That was the reason they did not allow trading from Gen II to Gen Ii as they revamped the coding and they were no longer compatible. Also since it is almost definate that any new console will have wi-fi (it would be a massive step back to remove it) trading to Gen V should be okay, you might have to rach a certain area first like in Gen 2 though.
