If you want darkrai to join your team, you need to beat him while holding the secret slab or, the mystery part.

Incorrect. Secret Slab or Mystery Part is only the mean to make legendary Pokemon appear in the dungeon. You (or the leader) have to hold Golden Mask or Amber Tear when defeating it to recruit it.
