I have seen it before, I have read about it, but it doesn't tell what it is, what's causing it, why it exists, or where it's coming from. Could it be arceus forcing you out of the dungeon for being a slowpoke or something worse?

I like to think that it is the force that sucks the dungeon floor into a void of some sort. You know how the floors are always different every time you go into the same dungeon... Where would they go? Something would have to "remove" them. Maybe it's Giratina forcing them into the distortion world , ha ha ha.
