I know it sounds boring but all 3 are very good choices.

Treecko is grass type, making it very useful against Roxanne in the early gym (especcially if you speak to the guy at the end of Petalburg woods and get the Bullet Seed TM) and its evolutions great against Wallace in the later gyms.

Mudkip is my personal choice, its a water type at start making Roxanne a piece of cake. It evolves into a Water-Ground type making Grass its only true weakness, whats more, electric types don't effect him, making Wattson an easy win even for a low-level Marshtomp.

Torchic is fire, evolves into Fire-Fight. This makes it strong against Roxanne, once you know the fighting moves after evolution, and against Norman. Enough Said.

I'd also recommend catching a Zigzagoon, a Tailow a Poochyena and Wingull. That makes a perfect starter team and with Careful raising can be an effective team against the majority of the gyms.

Remember. very early on just in Petalburg Forest, start running around in grass. Eventually, you will find a Shroomish, which evolves into Breloom, and Breloom is a good pokemon. It's also Grass|Fighting I believe.
Hoped this helps out. Smile

I'd pretty much go with Mudkip . Once it becomes a Swampert, things go the way you want 'em to; That, is, if you are a wise user. Smile Applause

Torchic is handy too. But, maybe, he'd be a second-choice.

I also recommend catching an abra as well as zigzagoon and ralts. He only know one move as abra but when he gets to level 18 he evolves to the much more useful kadabra.

Mud kip and Torchic are the best starters But taillow levels up really fast and is very obedient. And You should also get a Wurmple and evolve it into a Dustox. They evolve really fast so you don't have to worry about hours of training.P.S.Ralts are also very useful but you have to give them a TM because the don't come with any attack moves.

I'd recommend an Aron or Skitty. Granted, you have to wade through hundreds of battles to get a Skitty, but it's worth it.
Mudkip can easily be replaced by Barboach and Whiscash, and Torchic is made useless by the abundance of Fire and Fighting-type Pokemon in Hoenn. Meanwhile, the speed found in the Treecko line is unheard of for a Grass-type available so early on, making it an opportunity not many smart players would turn down.

I have to agree, especially with Aron and Treecko. But it's not like you can't really win with any team in game. lol

That can be said for the modern XYORAS games, but not with the older RSE games as Game Freak actually knew what they were doing back then.

It's really the same, if you actually think about it. I can use just one Pokemon with a few HM Slaves to defeat ANY Pokemon Game. It really isn't hard.
