Now that they're good...

So I was thinking of what team I would have, and this thought crossed my mind. The Johto region hasn't been accessible since 2nd gen, and since then a lot of bad pokemon that have been available in Johto have become good pokemon.

One pokemon that catches my attention is Azumarill. Back in the days of Johto, he was a poor pokemon with useless attacking stats. However, 3rd gen gave him the Huge Power trait, which, despite no STAB moves benefitting, allowed him to attack physically. 4th gen introduced Physical/Special split, which gave him plenty of new toys to play with, inlcuding STAB physical Water moves.

So in 2nd gen, he was useless, but in 4th gen, he's a damn good choice, and I don't doubt that I'll be using him over Quagsire this time around.

This could strongly affect one's team building.

So, what do you think. How will these pokemon that have become very good since their poor 2nd gen selves influence who goes in your team?

Well you are right about influence but i dont think that they will know any new attacks or status abilities.
They will be the same as old silver and gold versions.

No, that'll all be updated to Gen 4 standards, why wouldn't it. FR/LG were updated.

I hate Quagsire, so hard to kill. I might use one in HG/SS since there won't be so many other Pokemon to choose from. I never really liked Azumarill (despite the fact that I have a shiny one) but I might use it too.

I know I'll pick Cyndaquil as a starter.

ill choose totodile because when it evolves it can be helpful by using different hm's. and i was also thinking, we might have the dive move as a hm cause of lugia living in the islands and the deep trench

brian_orton - If they don't upgrade these games to 4th gen mechanics, there will be little point in buying them if you own Gold/Slver/Crystal.

coachcline - That's what's so good about Quagsire. He has good physical defences, and only one weakness (even though it's a quadruple weakness). He also gets STAB Earthquake. Chances are, I'll use both Quagsire and Azumarill, but in seperate playthroughs.

Shiny_Explosion - There's a higher possibility of them re-intriducing Whirlpool as an HM rather than Dive, although I hope both don't make the cut because I hated both.

But i thought that there will only be better effects and some new pokemon with story lines.

No. I'd imagine we'd be seeing the Physical/Special split, updated graphics and sound, and (unfortunately) EVs and natures.

Will we be able to evolve eve to glaceon and leafeon.

That hasn't been revealed yet.

Any pokemon can get you through the main storyline, so I'll probably just trade over my Platinum pokemon for Wi-Fi matches - and hopefully theyll introduce a random battle feature, like PBR.
My ingame team will probably be based on memories etc. such as Cyndaquil, pidgey, poliwag, geodude, mareep and maybe bellsprout lol

I think you're all overthinking team building.
I, not having wifi connection or any friends that are willing to fight me through short distance battles, am just in it for the fun of the story, instead of having every pokemon lvl 100 or capturing every pokemon.
I will admit, I think over what pokemon I want and how it will benefit me later in the game, cause you all hate doing the same battle over and over; I mean, LETS JUST GET THROUGH THIS MOFO!, but its also fun to have a bit of a challenge instead of being able to have a strong team that wins EVERY TIME!
But thats just me and my non-nerdy ways.

You probably won't be able to trade over from D/P/Pt until you obtain the National PokeDex, anyway.

well i'm not so sure about the trades. You were able trade national dex pokemon to platinum from D/P before getting the national dex

What if they make Latios and Latias available.

Personally, I'm taking more of a strategic look on this game. In platinum my team had a weakness to water and ice, and since water pokemon can use ice, I was screwed.

This time, I'm thinking of user Lanturn to my avantage and getting one that has volt absorb. Too bad trainers aren't as stupid as they were when they got into platinum. They were way smarter.

You can always use fire type by teaching it elctric move like thunder punch or shock wave.

They still have the disadvantage.
