No one really knows when the world will end, they just predict it. 2012 isn't the only prediction that the world would end. Let's take a look back on end-world predictions...
Random Assumption, 44 BC: people thought the world would end. It didn't.
The Birth of Jesus, 1 AD: people thought the birth of Jesus would be the end of them. They were wrong.
The Death of Jesus, 32 AD: people thought the DEATH of Jesus would be the end of them. Again, they were wrong.
Devil Day 1, 666 AD: Some people panicked that the year they were living in had the number of the beast, 666. Of course, they thought the end was near. They were far from it.
Y2K, January 1, 2000: People were afraid that just because their computer-operated devices could not have the year 2000 on their calendars, they thought there would be a glitch that would cause any electronics with a computer inside to go haywire. They were wrong.
Devil Day 2, June 6, 2006: Some people thought that because the date had three sixes in it, (6th of the 6th 06) it would mean the world will end. It didn't.
LHC, September 10, 2008: When people first got word that the Large Hadron Collider would create microscopic black holes, there were theories that something would go wrong and the LHC would create a larger black hole that would swallow the Earth whole within a matter of seconds. A teenage girl in India commited suicide when she heard about that theory. Did a larger black hole emerge? No. The world lives another day.
There are probably much more, but those are the dates I can still recall. Anyway, 2012 will be no different. After December 22, 2012, people move on and panic over another random date. It's kind of pointless really. People waste their lives worrying about the end of the world. A life of fear is a life not worth living.
