The best player England has is Steven Gerard without a doubt. If England had more players like him I'd give them a chance of winning the World Cup.

The winner of the tournament is definately one of those four unless Brazil decides they want to play and you can't discount them as they've got some of the best players in the world.

we'll see who wins dennis....we'll see.

I'm going with Spain if Fernando Torres is fit.

Really? I personally think Wayne Rooney is England's best player. If not for Rooney, Manchester United wouldn't be where they're at now. Gerrard doesn't quite have the same amount of influence with Liverpool, if you ask me.

I'm no fan of either, but that's my verdict.

I think Gerard lost a lot of influence with Liverpool when the club sold Alonzo as it was Alonzo who was the holding player that allowed Gerard to go forward and dictate games.

I think Rooney is probably most crucial for England, they don't really have any other strikers in the same class.

Australia's chances of getting out of the group are looking slightly better. First Ballack out for Germany and now Essien for Ghana. I'd still tip Germany and Serbia to progress from Group D but I'm still remaining hopeful.

England and Spain both didn't look convincing against Japan and Saudi Arabia. Plenty of people are now tipping Holland to win the World Cup.

Friendlys and the real thing are a whole different boat altogether. There is no way Stevie G is England's best player, hence why he gets shoved out to left midfield more often than not. I believe the key for England at this world cup is at the back. Solid performances from Rio, John and Gareth at the back, with Cole and Johnson using their attacking ability, we could cause quite the stir.
England; time setters for the entire world.

Germany did amazing under Lahm's lead against Bosnia-Herzegovina. (3:1) With Khedira filling Ballack's spot, they tend to play much more open and the offense comes from all directions. I'm surprised how well they adjusted. Maybe Ballack's injury is taking the team on a better turn!

Finale Tip: Holland vs. Germany

Just because Germany has been playing remarkably without Ballack. They still have many offensively dangerous player on the bench (i.e. Cacau, Marin, Kroos, Mueller, Gomez, Kiessling, etc.) and have played decisively in every World Cup they've participated in (Record of reaching semis 11 times).
Holland currently is the only team who have had no concrete injuries. I hope Robben can play, it'd be a shame to not have a player of his caliber for the tournament.

I don't think Spain will win the tournament. I think they'll crack under favoritism just like Brazil and France did these last 3 World Cups. They, no doubt, have great players but have never played a major tournament as favorites.

The World Cup has begun :D

Opening game finishes 1-1 between South Africa and Mexico. Pretty good game to open the tournament.

Currently 2.20 in the morning here and I'm still waiting for the Uruguay - France game.

It was absolutely embarrassing, England needs a decent goalkeeper, it's terrible when your best 3 goalies come from West Ham, Pompey and Man City.

Cred to TheLlama for the Siggy! And PBO for the Avy!

Yeah besides that I was really dissapointed in Rooney like I'm from the USA but I was really hoping that I would see Rooney like tear everyone up but he only had 1 good shot

Wasn't expecting anything else as soon as I saw our line-up for that game. We came out with no recognised striker and if we try to play the offside trap like we did for the rest of the tournament, we'll only end up with similar looking scorelines against Ghana and Serbia.

Now we might be without Cahill for the rest of the group stage. We should at least be able to start Kewell for the next game though.

It was pretty embarrassing. Newest inductee to England's suicide watch.

USA got lucky on that shot, they really did. I don't see them making it past the group stage though now, since Slovenia is leading with 3 points. I'm pulling for England on this one!
