Pop-Ups - hate them, avoid them, or block them...

Undoubtably you've seen pop-ups etc... While surfing on the internet.

What do you guys think of them? Personally I don't like to see them while I'm surfing, they can be annoying, but what I really hate is the active x downloaders which many sites seem to be running these days.

We run pop-ups on SuperCheats - although these days probably not as many as we used to do, and I think we can compare favourably with rival sites, many of which seem to just let the pop-us fly out. Is that fair comment? Or do we do too many pop ups too?

I've got a pop-up blocker on my browser so it doesn't really bother me. I do admit that pop-ups were annoying when they were popping up for a while.

All u have to do to get a pop up blocker is download google toolbar. Its really easy

We'll be cutting a lot of pops from XVGN and PSX Gamer for a little while in the next couple of days to try to grow the sites a bit better.

I've got a browser that blocks most pop-ups, so I'm OK on that respect. I generally hate them. I hate the ones that try to install spyware on your computer even more.

I have had a prob with pop-ups before when it automatically downloaded something without my permission and contained a virus, the prob was here at SC, after a while though that went away and the average old pop-ups came back. Webmasters, don't get sorry for the members if you put a lotta pop-ups on your site. After all, some webmasters need o=pop-ups to keep their site running because most of the credit they get is from the pop-ups otherwise they can't pay for their site. I only see like 2 pop-ups when a page opens and it doesn't bother me, I sometimes actully enjoy looking at those pop-ups and making of the stupid ppl who try and convince you that it isn't a scam! But it always is a scam now isn't it!:D I can always block the pop-ups with Norton Antivirus but like I said they don't bother me. So Rich just keep those pop-ups running, I know you own a lot of sites and need to pay for all of em....

Depends, like the ones that come up when you have verified or rated a submission.

Just to let you know,don't get a Yahoo Toolbar.I had one and it gave me tons of viruses. I got all of them out.Still,get Google Toolbar,it's beter.

I don't have to worry about any viruses because my Norton Antivirus is updated daily, but I do worry about adware and spyware, right now my computer is full of it and i don't how to get rid of it, Norton Antivirus doesn't do anything about it, anybody know how to get rid of spy and adware?

my laptop(yes i have a laptop for the net, my pc is busted up! its about 4 yeaers old!) gets a virus or an error where when you get to a site it goes to the bottom of the page and you can't scroll up!

You're lucky to have a laptop. I want one but they cost like £1,000 here! Sometimes my browser (I'm using Mozilla Firefox in case anybody was wondering) blocks most of the pop-ups here but it does allow those rating/bogus/verifying ones to come up.

They cost like, at least, $750 here. I don't know what that is in Euro, though. The most are 1000s of dollars.

The pop-ups here are fine. No worry.
