I've tried watching a bit of basketball, but it's just too easy to score. Most of the time it's end to end, with teams scoring about 80% of the time. It's not like in other sports, where scoring actually means something.

I haven't tried baseball, but it seems more interesting. Scoring in baseball is very valuable.

I like baseball because even the worst teams have a shot to win any given game. They do in other sports too, but it's not likely the Chiefs lose to the Jets or the Lakers lose to the Timberwolves. But in baseball the Tigers could beat the Dodgers on any given day.

The only thing sad about baseball is that prospects generally take forever to develop and your team can be stuck with an average roster treading water if they draft poorly for years and have trouble attracting free agents. My team, the Phillies, hasn't made the playoffs since 2011. In other sports you can draft one guy and drastically improve your team. Baseball is quite a bit slower and more methodical. Tanking is a 5 year project, not a 1 or 2 year thing.

This kinda contradicts what I just said about highlights, but the official MLB youtube channel has 5 minute highlight videos of every single game that are worth checking out. And full videos of some world series games.

Matt: Basketball is more of 50% chance to score each possession, but obviously offensive rebounding can significantly boost that. But I agree, most teams don't really play defense now. It's difficult to do these days, though, as the rules are so much more favorable toward offenses. It's pretty clear the upper executives want higher scoring games, likely thinking fans like that more. I need a mix of offense and defense to watch basketball, which is why I really like College Basketball. Any team can win despite ranking (well, more likely of an upset as Mike explained).

Yeah I like some good defensive basketball. The mid 2000's Pistons teams, early 2010's Spurs and mid-2010's Grizzlies were some of my favorite teams. I liked the Warriors dynasty for what it was and think this Nets team is really fun if nothing else, but the heavy skew towards offense turns me off. You can't close out, you can't hand check, offensive players can travel and initiate contact for a foul. The last two minutes of any close game take a half hour because of hack-a-Shaq. It's kind of hard to watch especially in the regular season and the ratings reflect that. Plus in the last 10 years players have been more explicit than ever in forming super teams and forcing their way to certain teams.

It makes it hard to be a fan of a team that's not a free agent destination. Philly is a big market but we don't often land premiere free agents in any sport really.

Why do you guys keep making/replying in nostalgia threads. As a king of nostalgia (see: Potential DPPt remake announcement this weekend has me HYPED), it gets me every time to find threads like this when I find SC's bookmark in my "other" folder. :P

I need 4th Gen Remakes.

That's the thing. I was on this site in my first year when that game came out. I remember chatting in the old Teams and Clans forums with a user named "Pikachu_Master" for the entire evening on April 21. Hits home to me that it finally could be remade.

Ha, I think I remember that username. Hopefully they get announced tomorrow.

I got back into Pokemon with 4th gen, which is why it was special to me. Loved playing it. Gotta catch Colt (Torterra) and ACE (Staraptor) ASAP fifteen years later.

I started with gen 1 but the first games I really remember are gen 3. Then I play D/P and B/W and B/W 2. Never got around to finishing HG/SS. Skipped X/Y, played parts of Sun and Moon but dropped off. I finished Sword and it was just okay.

So gens 3-5 are really the sweet spot for me.

I was just a kid when 1st Gen came. I played all three (Red, Blue, Yellow), never understanding the whole Silph Co Building Story since I was so young. Never completed any. I was a little older with 2nd Gen, but I never made it to end. Old enough with 3rd Gen to actually complete it, and though it was great, started losing interest in the franchise after completing Ruby/Sapphire. Didn't get 4th Gen when they first were released, instead receiving them as Christmas Gift a few months after they did. Love them. Great story and characters. Played everything since them. Like I referenced in other thread, never have had any expectations with these games, just go into them with a blank slate. Some obviously better than others. 5th Gen was awesome with N.

I really, really enjoyed Gen 5. It's probably my favorite gen if you throw away my nostalgia for the gen 1 Pokemon. Gen 4 is great too but my main issue is that they're so slow. Battles take forever. Hopefully the remakes fix that.

It's hard to argue that 5th Gen didn't have the best story, at least where the whole antagonist group is concerned. The only thing that compares is the twist in Sun & Moon - one of the few good things from that generation as a whole - where the real bad guys are what initially look like the good guys. Team Rocket is iconic, of course, but N and Ghetsis and the plot that literally thickened and unwinded as you went along was incredible. I guess that's why 3rd Gen (even with all those great Pokes) fell a little flat to me, since it was just two teams (Magma & Aqua) going at it. Not the worst ever, especially after you basically had none of that (antagonist activity) years later in Sword & Shield.

See I kind of liked Magma & Aqua because even though they were the bad guys they still had kind of noble goals and weren't just straight up evil like Rocket.

I get that. I guess they were just a downer to me since Rocket had been so great. Hard to follow that. lol

They all have a goal: rule the world. Well, except Galatic (rule the universe) and Rose (prevent Global Warming? lol).
