and alcohol damages your liver, cigarettes damage your lungs the difference is these side effects are much more likely to kill you where as there are still no deaths that can be directly linked to the use of cannabis, any deaths where cannabis is involved is a result of mixing a variety of things which if you have any sense you will know is not a good idea and you simply have no one to blame but your self. its like kicking the coffee table then blaming it for the pain your in, watch where your going - simple.
TIME TO MOVE! It really doesn't matter if they do or don't. People will get it anyway. I go to school and some of my friends smoke, drink, and do that stuff. Hey it's their body and their life. Who am I to tell them they can't or it is wrong? Yes they are underaged.
This will probably be changed again, over and over again in the future. I don't really see how this is a big problem.

The discussion seems to be more about the effects of marijuana on the body in general than on the impacts this will have on California's economy given their unique financial situation, how this will influence future national drug policy, or how this will affect California's crime rates (by which I don't mean crime going down because marijuana being legalized). When it gets to the point where people ask for evidence and post rebuttals, it enters D&D realm.

Alcohol isnt to get people drunk? sorry but thats the dumbest thing ive ever heard why do people drink? why have people been brewing alcohol for hundreds of years? the answer is simple - to get drunk.
That's why every single company known to man has "Drink Responsibly" written on every bottle. The REASON for beer is a drink to enjoy. Getting drunk is a(n abused) side effect.
being stoned is comepletely different to being drunk and does not make you think you can drive when you obviously can't. you don't get blurred vision and can mantain speeds which is the exact opposite of drink driving.
"Marijuana side effects from an overdose include toxic psychosis including hallucinations, delusions and a loss of self-identification."
people buying it for them which is alot harder than just going to the dealer themselves.
Dad: *Goes in store and buys pot* -Goes home and gives to child- The end. You'd be surprised how many parents would be willing to do that, too.
Alcohol is much worse that smoking weed, as it affects the liver.
"Marijuana side effects include physical problems like breathing difficulties and deteriorating physical abilities. Despite a popular belief, marijuana side effects speed up the heart, blood and breathing rate. The body is taxed more and this speeds up the aging process just like methamphetamines do. The marijuana side effects from this extra exertion on the body include a higher risk for lung cancer, heart attacks and strokes.
Marijuana side effects also wreak havoc on the brain when the drug is used habitually. The natural chemical balance of the brain is disrupted affecting the pleasure centers and regulatory systems. The ability to learn, remember and adapt quickly to changes is impaired by marijuana use. Depression often occurs with marijuana usage, which feeds into the cycle of more drug use to treat the pain created by drug use. This cycle of addiction is very powerful and users soon find that they cannot stop using the drug even if they want to."
Thank you buggy. Marijuana is such a powerful drug and everyone says it has no side effects. You people obviously have no idea what you're talking about if you says it's fine to use.
If it get's legalized minors are definitely going to use it.

Yeah, but minors currently are using it. If it gets legalised, there will be strict restrictions in place to try & lower use by those who are deemed underage.
& a lot of people here, Llama mainly, are speaking from personal experience from using Marijuana.
Have you ever used it? I only ask because I have a feeling a lot of people here that are touting the drug as an insideous evil have probably never used it so do not know first hand..

I have never used it, and I'm not saying it's the worst of the worst and it's completely bad for you, but I have seen many times when people say that it's a good drug.

But it would just make it more accessible to minors, rather than actually discouraging usage. There already are legal restrictions.

Do you have to smoke to say it causes lung cancer? Do you have to get drunk to say it impairs judgment? It doesn't make sense to me that apparently you have to have smoked it in order to make any valid claims.

i honestly dont think making it legal will change how easily availible it is but i can only speak for england as its easy to get over here its like just walking to the shop as it is. theres been alot of activity in the area of mking cannabis legal over the last 12months+ as people start to realize that all the negative things they are told about the drug are grealy over exaggerated and are often found in a small percentage of people so they dont see the advantages such as the economic value.
as im sure you know here in england we recently suffered a recession and have still yet to fully recover although with all the cuts being made by the goverment theres now a high risk of the country slipping back into one which would be alot worse but i honestly believe that legalise cannabis and taxing it would seriously help, obviously im not saying its going to solve everything but with the amount of people that smoke it these days it would deffiantly generate a ecent profit.
Similarly eating microwaved food, and using cell phones leads to radiation entering your body causing such a small percentage of damage its almost unnoticeable. Honestly if you guys who hate pot so much are going to be against any drug then be against nicotine in cigarettes .
Since I live in a land Down Under - where the woman glow and men plunder - this doesn't really effect me, but I think if they're legalizing it, kids will try it. Just like alcohol. Some'll love it, some'll hate it, the rest won't give a shirt.

There is no way I'm reading all of the long posts in this topic.
Eh, sounds like a good plan. Tax it to get the government more money while at the same time making it slightly hard to buy. Keep all of the people that like to smoke it out of jail, as that really just wastes more tax payer's money. Lower the amount of people smoking cigarettes (Hopefully) and allow people an alternative that won't actually kill them. Only downside of it would be making up driving laws such as the ones with drunk driving.
Seriously guys, I'm about ready to close this if we don't get back on topic. If you want to debate about pot, take it to D&D. Keep this about Prop 19.
I would be obligued to tell you I DID start this in D&D, rate-me had moved it. Do not blame everyone else for this.
I moved this thread because there was already a marijuana debate (in D&D it is actually encouraged to bump old threads) and because the rules explicitly say "Don't post a link and say 'discuss'". I could have closed the topic there, and in fact I considered it, but I was feeling lenient and moved the discussion to General Chat because I thought it would be possible to have a "chat" rather than a "debate". If you would rather I close your threads if this happens again, I'll be happy to oblige. If you have an issue with my moderatorial decisions, feel free to talk to me on msn (cortosis _ shield {at] hotmail {dot} com) (remove spaces and the things in brackets).
Ah, Ok. I will respect that. But as for everyne else, please dicuss the actual bill, not the side effects, because that is not what this is about. _amo_, aplogies for thinking you were another person,it was the avy that confused me.
And as to not make this off-topic,I think that the bill will be made legal, but not for long. From what I saw, he other states have NO say in this bill.
