People join the site, they post actively, their activity dwindles because of life, new members come in, the process continues. It's a never ending cycle. People come and go and they bring in new ideas.
I believe that the site has greatly improved in delivering the most optimal interface for its users whether it be cheats, forums, etc. The site, I'm sure, wants to keep its visitors and members, so it has to offer some unique layouts and extras in comparison to other gaming websites. Don't think that this site is the only one changing it's appearance, other sites like IGN and GameSpot have done the same over the years.
I mean, do you really want to revert to something old school like this?

Exactly, it's been even worse than this.. I remember a few months ago there wasn't a new post in the forums for like 2/3 hours one time :/ now there's like a post every whatever minutes, except in like stupid hours (mostly when the Americans are sleeping XD).
